Town of Orchard City

Project Description:

Orchard City, a community with strong agricultural values, has begun to see orchards and farms being sold and subdivisions platted and a wave of new residence moving to Orchard City. At the same time, the town has slowly expanded public services to include parks and recreation and roadway maintenance beyond the original charge of potable water services. The clash between those who want Orchard City to remain a water service provider and those who desire full town services has grown finally reaching a point where the town partnered with CPS to facilitate a community dialogue to understand community vision of the future and the role of the town government. This outreach effort consisted of two phases. The first was a visual preference survey which was positioned at six locations throughout the town where residents could respond to the visual survey while completing their normal errands around town. The second was a community household survey which dove into various topics gauging the respondent’s level of agreement with a particular policy or project. Each phase culminated with a full report and presentation of the report by CPS. The final report included actionable recommendations for the town to take to implement a policy, support a project, or explore a particular topic further based on the responses to the survey.
